Jo came from a background in Public Relations and Policy Development within the Government of Western Australia. In 1993, she moved to the UK where she established the Development and Alumni Office of King's College London. Over her seven years with KCL, her team built up an effective database, alumni programme and introduced an annual fund, legacies and major gift programme and she led KCL through the "quiet stage" of their first capital campaign. In 2000, Jo then led Oxford University's North American office for three years where she increased income to the University over a trying economic time.
Throughout her advancement career, Jo has been a regular contributor to CASE and was a leading force for the establishment of the Spring Institute in Durham (UK), which she chaired for the first two years. Jo is the first Australasian to win a CASE apple.

Her "slow slide into fundraising" came after fifteen years with Time Warner Cable television advertising and sales and promotional marketing in the National Basketball Association and the US Olympic Ski Team. After corporate underwriting stints with National Public Radio and then producing a custom magazine for a public service initiative of the US cable television industry, it became clear that skills from the for-profit sector were applicable to non-profit and in particular higher education. Nina joined MIT Sloan as Associate Director of Development and after four years was recruited to head up the Major Gifts team at London Business School where she has been for the past six years. She now covers all of Asia region, has some UK based prospects, and manages a team of six. Nina has a BS in Television Radio Communications from Ithaca College, Ithaca NY and lives with her husband Peter and two boys, Dexter and Coleman, in North London.

Dr Lianne Cretney‐Barnes is Pro Vice Chancellor, Marketing, Student Services and Development at Murdoch University in Western Australia where her role involves working with key members of the university on strategic marketing and communication strategy, stakeholder engagement, the student experience, alumni and fundraising.
Under her leadership, Murdoch University won the Best Rebranding Campaign category of the 2009 WA Business News branding survey and the 2008 and 2009 National and State Australian Marketing Institute Awards for Marketing Excellence. Murdoch's online strategy has also won seven international awards over the last two years
Prior to her appointment at Murdoch, Lianne was CEO of Aragon Education and Training, a quality endorsed Registered Training Organization providing education and training to both the private and public sector.
Lianne was Director of Marketing and Development at Edith Cowan University (ECU) from 2000 to 2006 where she had responsibility for the strategic planning of the University's marketing and development. While Lianne was Director, ECU won the 2002 and 2003 Australian Marketing Institute National and State Awards for Marketing Excellence. ECU was also the winner of the 2002 Campaign Brief magazine's inaugural Best Media Strategy Award and Advertiser of the Year in 2003. She was also responsible for the negotiation of a significant partnership with IBM to collaborate on both academic and IT projects. Steve Elder

Steve Elder is vice president for advancement at Colorado College where he is leading a $300 million campaign. Previously, he served as director of development at the University of Redlands and before that as development director for the University of Southern California Libraries, during which time he co-authored the award-winning book, Becoming a Fundraiser: The Principles and Practice of Library Development, a fundraising primer for librarians.
Steve earned an M.A. in Communications Management from the Annenberg School for Communication at USC, where he studied the design of public communication campaigns. He holds his B.A. in Journalism from the University of Utah. Most recently, he authored the chapter, "Riding the Unicycle: Recruiting, Training and Retaining High Performance Development Teams" in the journal New Directions in Higher Education.
Dr Theodore S. Faunce

Dr. Theodore S. Faunce has been Headmaster of Chinese International School (CIS) since August 2006. CIS was established in 1983. Under Dr. Faunce's leadership, CIS published its Strategic Vision in 2008, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008-09, and launched its Annual Fund in 2009.
Dr. Faunce previously served for eight years at the Lycée International in St. Germain-en-Laye as Director of the American Section-a school within a school enrolling 700 students, and like CIS, a dual-language school from Pre-K through Grade 12.
From 1984 to 1998, Dr. Faunce taught French at the Episcopal High School, a coeducational boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia (Grades 9-12). Apart from classroom teaching, he served as Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, Coordinator of Overseas Programs, and Boys' Varsity Squash Coach. His previous teaching positions were at Bard College (1983-84), Princeton University (1981-83) and Hamden Hall Country Day School (1973-75).
In 1996-97, Dr. Faunce spent a sabbatical year as a professor of English at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. In 2009, Dr. Faunce spoke at the National Chinese Convention in Chicago. He has been invited to speak twice at the International Baccalaureate Global Language Convention (Atlanta, 2008; Melbourne, 2010).
A fluent French speaker, Dr. Faunce is currently learning Chinese and has studied Vietnamese. He attended Princeton University, where he earned his B.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages in 1973 and 1981, respectively. He graduated cum laude from The Hotchkiss School in 1969.
Marina Tan Harper

Mrs Marina Tan Harper's fundraising experience of over 18 years has stood her in good stead as Director, Development Office of Nanyang Technological University, a post she has held since April 2005. In her first year at the university, she led its Development Office to triple the value of funds raised and increase the number of alumni donors 20‐fold.
Immediately prior to joining NTU, she was Director of Development, Annual and Special Gifts at Northern Kentucky University. In Ohio, she was also Assistant Director of Development with Chatfield College and Development Manager of Cincinnati Ballet.
Mrs Harper's career in development had its roots in her earlier years first as a violist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and then Manager of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati before her appointment as Executive Director of Kokomo Symphony Orchestra in Indiana. These appointments in music and arts management included responsibilities in fundraising and paved the way for Mrs. Harper's current career in development.
Educated in Singapore until her late teens, Mrs Harper went on to pursue her bachelors and graduate degrees in music performance (violin and viola) at Ball State University, Indiana, and The Julliard School, New York City, in the United States of America.
Murray Happ

Murray Happ is the Director of Development at St Aloysius' College in Sydney, Australia. An Old Boy (Alumni) of St Aloysius' (SAC 1985), he has a great love and passion for the College and all things Aloysian. He has worked in fundraising for over fifteen years including serving as the Foundation Director at Cranbrook School in Sydney and Assistant Direct Marketing Manager for the Adelaide Central Mission in South Australia.
Prior to entering the world of school development Murray worked for a number of State and Federal Members of Parliament in Australia culminating in his appointment as the Community Advisor to The Hon Dean Brown MP, Premier of South Australia.
Murray also served on the staff of the Prime Minister of Thailand in the office of The Thai Board of Investment where he liaised with foreign companies investing in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Murray started the annual giving appeal programme at St Aloysius' College in 1998. In its first year the appeal raised $30,000 from 91 donors. Inspired by its early success, the College has invested a lot of effort into what is now called The St Aloysius' Annual Fund and seen the total income and numbers of individual donors steadily increase to the point where, in 2010, the appeal raised over $560,000 from 672 donors.
Under his direction yearly philanthropic income at the College has risen from an average of $326,000 per year to over $1,800,000 over the past ten years.
Murray is a member of CASE, an Executive Member of the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) and the Association of Development and Alumni Professionals in Education (ADAPE). In 2004 Murray was inducted as a Fellow of ADAPE Australasia in recognition of his career achievements and service to the advancement of the fundraising and development profession.

He is also a Director and Treasurer of the Young Men's Christian Association of Singapore, member of the Heritage Industry Incentive Program (Hi2P) Approval Committee of the National Heritage Board of Singapore, member of Investment Committee of the Boy's Brigade in Singapore.
Mr Chew is also an Executive Director of the Tecity Group of companies which is a privately-held investment group founded by the late banker and philanthropist, Tan Sri Dr Tan Chin Tuan. The Group manages an active global investment portfolio. The Tecity Group of companies has substantial shareholdings in STC. Her Office is responsible for major university communications and stakeholder engagement activities, such as media relations, public affairs, ceremonies and events, the university website, online and print publications, editorial services and productions. Katherine is a communications specialist with over 20 years of experience in journalism, corporate communications, public affairs and public relations. She started her career as a political reporter. She spent the major part of her career as a public affairs specialist in the railway, electricity, tourism and education sectors.
Katherine Ma holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master's degree in International and Public Affairs from the University of Hong Kong. Molly and her team provide a number of services and resources for Alumni Groups including a free annual one‐day conference, a speaker request system, a volunteer handbook and extensive publicity of Group events and initiatives to the wider alumni network. Molly has been working with volunteers for 14 years.

Robb S. Pike currently serves as a director of development at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Prior to Colorado College, he served as director of development at Project Angel Heart in Denver; regional director for the United Way of the National Capital Area - Arlington office; major gifts officer for the United Way of King County in Seattle; and other development positions previously. Robb speaks with groups on board dynamics, major gift fundraising, and social interactions.

Gemma Ryan studied at the University of Sydney where she completed a Bachelor of Liberal Studies, majoring in French and Psychology. She subsequently worked on a number of international development projects throughout the charity sector. Gemma joined RBA initially as a Campaign Manager running telethons in Australia, Scotland and Oxbridge.
She completed intensive training including attending the CASE Spring Institute in the UK and the Rux Burton Associates Graduate Trainee Scheme.
In her current role as Business Development Manager she uses the knowledge gained working with clients on-site to advise potential clients on how to maximize the potential of their Annual Funds. She also travels widely to conferences and to Development Offices throughout Australia and New Zealand to promote RBAs services to interested organizations throughout Australasia.
RBA are affinity fundraising consultants to the education sector and outside of North America the world's leading provider of on-site student telephone fundraising campaigns. RBA's aim is on maximizing participation rates among parents and alumni by focusing on communication that creates engagement and a sense of community. With offices in Oxford, Melbourne and Hong Kong, RBA employ about 25 staff and have run more than 300 campaigns in Oxbridge, schools, universities and business schools in Europe, Asia and Australia.
Gemma has a great deal of experience of sharing her knowledge with others in the sector including hosting a round table discussion at the most recent ADAPE conference in Adelaide. Earlier this year she also presented at the Rux Burton Associates Australian User Seminar and participated in a Direct Mail Seminar recently held in Melbourne.

Andy Shaindlin has worked in alumni relations since 1989, at Brown University (his alma mater), the University of Michigan, and the California Institute of Technology, where he served as Executive Director of the Caltech Alumni Association from 1999 until 2010. He also served for seven months as Acting Assistant Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations at Caltech.
Through his consultancy, Alumni Futures, Andy helps organizations understand and deploy community-enabling technologies. This includes online social networks as well as private online communities, and other digital tools. His clients include schools, colleges, universities, other non-profit organisations, and start-up companies in the technology sector. He has presented at dozens of conferences, with past or upcoming speaking engagements in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK, France, Hungary, Spain and Norway.
Shaindlin has published numerous articles, research papers, and book chapters on topics in institutional advancement. He established Alumni Futures in 2007 as the first blog devoted to the profession of alumni relations and it is by far the most widely read site devoted to the topic. In four years, Alumni Futures has generated more than 175,000 page views of some 320 articles. His consulting practice grew from reader interest in his weekly writings on ideas, trends and new directions in educational advancement.
Shaindlin chairs the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations, and serves on the CASE Board of Trustees. He received the CASE Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2006. He holds a master's degree in Education and lives in Pasadena, California.
Melissa Smith

Melissa Smith is Development Manager at University of Technology, Sydney since July 2008. Melissa led the successful ask for $25 million gift from Dr Chau Chak Wing for a Frank Gehry‐designed business school in 2010; the equal largest gift to an Australian university to date. Melissa has developed UTS' international development strategy, focusing on China and also works with the Arts Faculty and on capital projects.
Prior to UTS, Melissa Smith has established philanthropy programs at the Sydney Opera House and Powerhouse Museum, and has worked across the fundraising areas of major gifts, capital campaigns, annual giving and trusts and foundations.
A Churchill Fellowship recipient in the area of international best practice in philanthropy, Melissa also completed the Sydney Leadership Program and is currently undertaking Asialink Leaders Program. Melissa holds a Masters of Management (UTS), and First Class Honours in Art History, BA (USyd).
Melissa has presented at local and international conferences, most recently the Australia‐China Philanthropy & Social Investment Workshop supported by the Australian Government at Shanghai Expo. Lena spent over 23 years as Director of Arts at the British Council during which she promoted UK arts and UK / Singapore cultural collaboration. In 2003, she was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth for her work at the British Council.
She also worked at the Singapore Management University in the office of Student Life and Office of Advancement & Alumni; and the National Museum as Head of Corporate Communications. She took time out of corporate life to start an eco business, Greenpeas Eco Lifestyle, focusing on bamboo fibre designer wear. It lasted a year, so she has the highest regard for businesses which are sustainable!
She is currently working with Family Business Network (FBN) Asia, a regional chapter of FBN International, a non-profit based in Switzerland, representing family businesses in 45 countries. FBN International has become the world's leading network of business-owning families, promoting the success and sustainability of family businesses.
Come May, she will pursue her second greatest passion - film - and help run the Singapore International Film Festival. She has sat on numerous advisory panels of the National Arts Council, including the major grants and film advisory panel. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling (she has travelled to some 46 countries visiting almost 200 cities), cooking, reading, writing and watching lots of movies with radio-presenter hubby Hamish Brown.

Dr. Theodore S. Faunce has been Headmaster of Chinese International School (CIS) since August 2006. CIS was established in 1983. Under Dr. Faunce's leadership, CIS published its Strategic Vision in 2008, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2008-09, and launched its Annual Fund in 2009.
Dr. Faunce previously served for eight years at the Lycée International in St. Germain-en-Laye as Director of the American Section-a school within a school enrolling 700 students, and like CIS, a dual-language school from Pre-K through Grade 12.
From 1984 to 1998, Dr. Faunce taught French at the Episcopal High School, a coeducational boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia (Grades 9-12). Apart from classroom teaching, he served as Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, Coordinator of Overseas Programs, and Boys' Varsity Squash Coach. His previous teaching positions were at Bard College (1983-84), Princeton University (1981-83) and Hamden Hall Country Day School (1973-75).
In 1996-97, Dr. Faunce spent a sabbatical year as a professor of English at Hanoi University of Foreign Studies. In 2009, Dr. Faunce spoke at the National Chinese Convention in Chicago. He has been invited to speak twice at the International Baccalaureate Global Language Convention (Atlanta, 2008; Melbourne, 2010).
A fluent French speaker, Dr. Faunce is currently learning Chinese and has studied Vietnamese. He attended Princeton University, where he earned his B.A. and Ph.D. in Romance Languages in 1973 and 1981, respectively. He graduated cum laude from The Hotchkiss School in 1969.
Marina Tan Harper

Mrs Marina Tan Harper's fundraising experience of over 18 years has stood her in good stead as Director, Development Office of Nanyang Technological University, a post she has held since April 2005. In her first year at the university, she led its Development Office to triple the value of funds raised and increase the number of alumni donors 20‐fold.
Immediately prior to joining NTU, she was Director of Development, Annual and Special Gifts at Northern Kentucky University. In Ohio, she was also Assistant Director of Development with Chatfield College and Development Manager of Cincinnati Ballet.
Mrs Harper's career in development had its roots in her earlier years first as a violist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and then Manager of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati before her appointment as Executive Director of Kokomo Symphony Orchestra in Indiana. These appointments in music and arts management included responsibilities in fundraising and paved the way for Mrs. Harper's current career in development.
Educated in Singapore until her late teens, Mrs Harper went on to pursue her bachelors and graduate degrees in music performance (violin and viola) at Ball State University, Indiana, and The Julliard School, New York City, in the United States of America.

Murray Happ is the Director of Development at St Aloysius' College in Sydney, Australia. An Old Boy (Alumni) of St Aloysius' (SAC 1985), he has a great love and passion for the College and all things Aloysian. He has worked in fundraising for over fifteen years including serving as the Foundation Director at Cranbrook School in Sydney and Assistant Direct Marketing Manager for the Adelaide Central Mission in South Australia.
Prior to entering the world of school development Murray worked for a number of State and Federal Members of Parliament in Australia culminating in his appointment as the Community Advisor to The Hon Dean Brown MP, Premier of South Australia.
Murray also served on the staff of the Prime Minister of Thailand in the office of The Thai Board of Investment where he liaised with foreign companies investing in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Murray started the annual giving appeal programme at St Aloysius' College in 1998. In its first year the appeal raised $30,000 from 91 donors. Inspired by its early success, the College has invested a lot of effort into what is now called The St Aloysius' Annual Fund and seen the total income and numbers of individual donors steadily increase to the point where, in 2010, the appeal raised over $560,000 from 672 donors.
Under his direction yearly philanthropic income at the College has risen from an average of $326,000 per year to over $1,800,000 over the past ten years.

Shaindlin has published numerous articles, research papers, and book chapters on topics in institutional advancement. He established Alumni Futures in 2007 as the first blog devoted to the profession of alumni relations and it is by far the most widely read site devoted to the topic. In four years, Alumni Futures has generated more than 175,000 page views of some 320 articles. His consulting practice grew from reader interest in his weekly writings on ideas, trends and new directions in educational advancement.
Shaindlin chairs the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations, and serves on the CASE Board of Trustees. He received the CASE Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2006. He holds a master's degree in Education and lives in Pasadena, California.

Melissa Smith is Development Manager at University of Technology, Sydney since July 2008. Melissa led the successful ask for $25 million gift from Dr Chau Chak Wing for a Frank Gehry‐designed business school in 2010; the equal largest gift to an Australian university to date. Melissa has developed UTS' international development strategy, focusing on China and also works with the Arts Faculty and on capital projects.
Prior to UTS, Melissa Smith has established philanthropy programs at the Sydney Opera House and Powerhouse Museum, and has worked across the fundraising areas of major gifts, capital campaigns, annual giving and trusts and foundations.
A Churchill Fellowship recipient in the area of international best practice in philanthropy, Melissa also completed the Sydney Leadership Program and is currently undertaking Asialink Leaders Program. Melissa holds a Masters of Management (UTS), and First Class Honours in Art History, BA (USyd).
Melissa has presented at local and international conferences, most recently the Australia‐China Philanthropy & Social Investment Workshop supported by the Australian Government at Shanghai Expo. Melissa has received an ADAPE Highly Commended Award for Major Gifts Campaign, and won the FIA Award for Major Gifts/Capital Campaigns (NSW).

Lena spent over 23 years as Director of Arts at the British Council during which she promoted UK arts and UK / Singapore cultural collaboration. In 2003, she was awarded the MBE (Member of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth for her work at the British Council.
She also worked at the Singapore Management University in the office of Student Life and Office of Advancement & Alumni; and the National Museum as Head of Corporate Communications. She took time out of corporate life to start an eco business, Greenpeas Eco Lifestyle, focusing on bamboo fibre designer wear. It lasted a year, so she has the highest regard for businesses which are sustainable!
She is currently working with Family Business Network (FBN) Asia, a regional chapter of FBN International, a non-profit based in Switzerland, representing family businesses in 45 countries. FBN International has become the world's leading network of business-owning families, promoting the success and sustainability of family businesses.
Come May, she will pursue her second greatest passion - film - and help run the Singapore International Film Festival. She has sat on numerous advisory panels of the National Arts Council, including the major grants and film advisory panel. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling (she has travelled to some 46 countries visiting almost 200 cities), cooking, reading, writing and watching lots of movies with radio-presenter hubby Hamish Brown.

Jeff Todd is an alumni relations professional with more than 25 years of experience in both Canadian and US institutions. He became ED/AVP Alumni at UBC in September, 2010, and quickly established himself as an essential part of the university's senior executive team, and as a central player in the alumni engagement endeavour. He currently leads a professional team of 34, provides executive management to a volunteer board of 26, and actively balances the strategic plans and priorities of both the non‐profit, independent Alumni Association and the university to serve its 250,000‐plus alumni worldwide. UBC Alumni Affairs is focused on doubling alumni engagement during the next five years and building an iconic, vibrant and welcoming alumni centre in the heart of the Point Grey campus.
Jeff came to UBC from Oregon State University where he served as Executive Director, OSU Alumni Association, and Director, Alumni Relations. In this role he was responsible for organizing, managing and implementing a comprehensive alumni program focused on increasing alumni connections to one another and to the university, and with building alumni pride in OSU for its more than 150,000 alumni and friends.
Reporting to the President of OSU, Jeff also served on the university cabinet. He developed an ambitious strategic plan to complement and support the university's aspirations, and focused the organization on its implementation. During his time at Oregon State, he helped strengthen collaboration and partnership across the university but especially with the OSU Foundation; expanded the distribution of the alumni magazine to all alumni; significantly expanded the annual budget to support increased alumni relations activities; launched an annual $1,000 gift initiative to support the association's priorities; re‐organized the board of directors structure and focus; formed an alumni advisory council; created and began implementation of a five year revenue growth plan; and established a more consistent presence in Portland.
Jeff served as Executive Vice‐President at the University of Arizona Alumni Association from 2002‐2004. In this role he assisted the association president in all aspects of implementing and evaluating a comprehensive alumni relations program designed to involve more than 200,000 alumni, and build relationships that would lead to support for the university. His role also included human resource management, strategic planning and evaluation, operations management, program leadership, development and budgeting, and special projects assigned by the president.
He served as Director of Alumni Relations, The College of Wooster, from October 1985 to December 2001, with responsibility for the management and overall direction of a comprehensive alumni relations program for more than 28,000 Wooster alumni worldwide. From July 1996 to December 2001 he was Director of The Wooster Fund, where he increased annual fundraising for unrestricted purposes by an average of 5% per year between 1997 and 2001.
Active in CASE, Jeff has served on the international board and alumni relations commission. A frequent speaker at, and chair of CASE conferences, he received a Crystal Apple Award.

Anne Witt is a Parent Co‐Chair of the Annual Fund of the Chinese International School (CIS) - a dual‐language English‐Mandarin school founded in Hong Kong in 1983. She is also a member of the school's Development Board and PTA General Committee. The parent of four CIS students, she has been a CIS stakeholder since 1999, serving on the school's 2008 strategic planning committee and in a wide variety of other capacities. Anne also supports the development of the arts in Asia and serves as a director on the Executive Council of the Society of the Academy for Performing Arts, as well as the Friends' Committee of the Asian Cultural Council. As a graduate of the University of Toronto, she holds a B.Sc. from Trinity College and M.H.Sc. degree, and is a former management consultant for the healthcare industry in both Canada and the UK.

Soon Min Yam is Director of Alumni Affairs at Nanyang Technological University since 2004. Over the years, he has strengthened the alumni's affinity for the university as evident in sustaining contact with 85% of the 145,000‐strong alumni population through regular alumni publications, setting up of 26 local and 28 overseas chapters as well as organising an annual average of 40 to 50 quality social, recreational, sports and educational events and activities.
Previously, he served as Director of Sports for Life at Singapore Sports Council for 10 years and as Head of Public Relations - Event Management at Jurong Town Corporation for 15 years. Min Yam is active in community and grassroots work and holds key position as community leaders in various capacities over the last 25 years. For his contributions to the community, he received the Public Service Medal (PBM) and Public Service Star (BBM) from the President of Republic of Singapore in 1991 and 1998, respectively. He earned his Bachelor of Arts with Honours from Nanyang University, Singapore.

Antonia Yeung has over 15 years of experience in the higher education sector, specializing initially in student development, promotion of arts and culture, communication and event management. Antonia is currently the Director of Alumni Affairs at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), overseeing the development of alumni relations and communication as well as the strategic support and engagement of over 100 alumni bodies of CUHK worldwide.
Having developed a career in community services, marketing and communications in Canada and subsequently in her native Hong Kong, Antonia dedicated her passion to higher education, with a particular interest in training and development. Antonia has been APSSA Fellow with the Asia‐Pacific Student Services Association and has shared her cross‐cultural experience and initiatives at workshops and conferences across regions.
Antonia read Linguistics at McGill University and pursued postgraduate training in Communication Studies in Montreal, specializing in mass media and television/ radio production. She did her MBA with CUHK and is a Certified Program Planner for educational activities.
